History and Experience

The new business and corporate structure of Mecaer Aviation Group leverages complementary competences while building upon the original aviation legacies, skills, business capabilities and human assets.

Mecaer, now the MAG Actuation & Landing Systems division, traces its origins from the SIAI Marchetti Borgomanero plant, in the heartland of the Nortern Italy aviation industry. The site dates back to 1902 and it was here, from 1919, that SIAI Marchetti made components for aircraft and helicopters. In later years production included mechanical components and propeller blades. Acquired by Agusta with SIAI Marchetti, the plant was eventually spun off and sold to industrial investors to form Mecaer.

The Group's MAG Modifications & Completions and MRO & Services divisions date back to SEI, acquired in 2001. Based at Monteprandone, on Italy's Adriatic coast near Ascoli Piceno, SEI traced its roots to the BredaNardi company, established in 1971.

The company, which brought together industrial know-how dating back to 1917, went on to build some 180 NH-300 (Hughes Model 369) helicopters up until 1996.

Mecaer built up its presence by recruiting experienced management, opening its ownership to banks and private equity funds and pursuing international growth opportunities. Mecaer America Inc. in Canada started as a result of the acquisition of Performance LT; a SEI-operated completion center in Vergiate came on board in 2004 and MAG Inc. was established in Philadelphia in 2007.
